Apple TV is rad, because you can pair it with a controller, and use the Steam link app to play on your computer from another room.
No need to have the computer near the tv for couch gaming. No need to listen to the pc fans screaming.

Do the Ecobees have any issue if you block their access to the internet? Any issues making it lan only?
Thanks! I’ll give it a whirl.
What self-hosted alternative would you recommend for document collaboration? Word processing docs, spreadsheets, pdf’s, etc.
I was using Nextcloud, but it’s not been as straightforward for file-sharing as I’d like, multiple people can’t work on a document at once, and it doesn’t save changes consistently (especially with fillable PDF’s).
So then save cash, set up a raid array, and get multiple proper backups running. You need to do steps 2 & 3 regardless.
Exactly. Most people have skill issues with this. Stop gatekeeping.
So now we can’t even speak of Linux’ poor usability?! Hah. Fat chance.
There it is. The self-defeating attitude that got us here, and keeps us here.
And this thinking is exactly why it will always be niche. A complete inability & unwillingness to move beyond that.
Might as well put a damn ham radio in it. The Linux crowd will love it, and everyone else won’t know what the hell to do with it. Seems what they’re going for.
I can absolutely think of use cases for it. Would 100% support an expansion port for it.
But as a default feature on a mobile device? Moronic design choice. But again, just a classic out-of-touch decision from Linux developers. Very on-brand.
Why the fuck would a handheld need an ethernet port?
The pro-linux developers just can’t stop designing things to their own specific needs and skillsets. No concept of designing & marketing for a wide audience.
Nextcloud. Works super well.
Plex is available for a lot of smart devices. Still helpful to have a server running for it in some circumstances. Not hard to spin up a Plex docker that points to the same library files. Just disable the thumbnail generation to keep it from eating drive space.
Awesome.
Does that jellyfin compatibility work for Emby?
LoL. That feature is literally the only reason I also have a Plex docker pointing to my library. But they’ve definitely not been supporting it for a while, because I don’t think it’s worked well in forever. Last few times I tried it with friends, we ended up having to just try to hit play at the same time.
Oh well. One less container now.
