Thanks. Adding qubes to the list. I may not use it for trying distro but separating workflow is good idea.

Oh interesting, I may need to look into atomic distro more. As of now I don’t understand what are features, pros/cons. I’ll read up but it’s definitely looking like way forward for me. If u have resources please link them.

Is it terminal only?

I’ll check this, when it’s VM I don’t generally spend required time to use it (my problem). I just get on primary os, do whatever I wanted and log off. This is the main reason I’m hesitant of VM.

I actually run proxmox on my homelab. What does unraid bring over pve? I didn’t think of running proxmox on desktop

I was overthinking it bit too much. I simply have to enable sharing

got it, also I was overthinking it bit too much. I simply have to enable sharing

Bookmarking this location in file manager also causes problem.

Is there an explanation somewhere about how to do this?
I was thinking I needed uPnP server on HTPC but after reading some more realized that’s probably not the thing.
Then I found VLC should be able to do it (https://www.baeldung.com/linux/upnp-dlna-clients)
we just select Universal Plug’n’Play from theLocal Network category on the left.
but after that it doesn’t just show up under device where I can cast
I think gmediarenderer is what I’m looking for

updated OP for now

I’ll have a look at this, updated OP for now

Oh wow, I just kept thinking renderer somehow opens ports for accepting streams. Let me revisit it then.

I currently have systemd solution but it only manages to mount when needed.

just tried Dolphin (KDE file manager) - same experience. Going to experiment with autofs next

It was through fstab until recently. About 2 weeks back I moved to mount them on demand (systemd, will confirm exact method when I’m in front of computer) however this still doesn’t address unmount part when I switch network.

Not really tied to gnome, it’s just something I’m using. Would KDE work better ?
Nothing really, I mostly want to experiment (but trying to do it without changing my workflow much), from suggestions both atomic and qubes options r looking interesting
