thats a good idea, although wifi is not reliable enough for me. Although I found this guide which shows how to add an ethernet port to a PI zero w so hopefully I can use that. Or maybe I should just use a ESP32.

044en17rl is right I meant a public seaxng instance.

That is a lot of money for me, especially if all I need it to do is simulate the on button. Surely there is some really cheap arm based device that has an ethernet port and can therefore send WOL signals.

Arch wiki strikes again! That’s pretty cool I just checked and the bios on my pc does indeed have this feature.

Lan is not the name of my parent 💀

Using a public instance is more private than using a private selfhosted instance.

That actually seams pretty awsome, just using a really low powered device to send WOL commands.

I don’t have home assistant setup in my parents place, that is a nice feature though I might use that for other things.

I already have 2x2tb hard drives, a singular sd card is not enough for me I need some level of redundancy even for my backups.

I didn’t realise the bios could do that I will look into that.

The search engines that searxng interact with still track you. For this reason I will always use a public instance to mix up the tracking with everyone else using it.

I don’t really take issue with dozens of posts by newbies asking the same basic question over and over. I used to be one and am occasionally back there again if I start a new hobby. Hopefully newcomers don’t get pushed off by overly sensitive moderation.
I’m not sure if I agree with this, unless you need clarification on something specific the forum like nature and search should allow you to find answers to previous questions without asking it again.
But I do agree overmoderation is bad. I swear if communities start implementing a karma system…

Is zorin-os that good? I don’t really like its model of bundling a whole lot of free software together and then charging money for it.
Although you can just get the free version.

Oh ok, I’ve never installed debian before so thats good to know.

I would have thought debian is better than ubuntu but I couldn’t find a server version of debian. Where do I find debian server or debian cli only?

Shhhh! No one can no we are all being played by the immich overlords.

Is it decently easy to create and manage vm’s and containers with the terminal? I use proxmox at the moment. Should I switch to Ubuntu server?
It’s not complicated at all
