We already have it (LineageOS etc), the problem is that the hardware they run on (reflashed unlocked android phones) are disappearing and the whole android ecosystem with proprietary 3rd party software is getting more restrictive.

Many people on r/cyberdeck had made something similar. Now I’m wondering if there’s one on lemmy too…
Cool, not sure why it doesn’t work for me :/ I only turn on wifi about once a week to sync new books from my server since I use it as an offline ebook reader.
Haven’t had a pixel 3, but do have a pixel 2. Running stock rom because verizon and degoogled with adb and wifi off, only used for occasional quick photo shoots. The battery also only goes for about 3 days.
2 weeks? That’s awesome. SM6115 and 2300mAh. My Lenovo P11 with LineageOS(GSI) also has a SM6115 with much bigger battery and only gives about 4 days idle… Are you using some technique for longer battery time?
yep you can. actually a lot of business laptops other than thinkpads also have one, it’s very useful.
it is indeed pretty slow to start, but after that it’s pretty fast and doesn’t use much memory. I’ve used it heavily on my core2duo macbook (cpu capped to 800mhz due to no battery) until a few years ago.
slackware, netbsd, openbsd
edit: i forgot tinycore, you gotta try that too
bruh w10 iot ltsv 21h2 is updated till 2032
I use both samba and NFS (with freebsd) on the same disk for my freebsd, linux and win7 desktop machine. All works perfectly fine.
I’m running an rsync daemon for large transfers and use copyparty for easily grabbing files on phones etc.
I also hate systemd and use slackware and devuan, both of which works on aarch64. I believe Void also works but I never tried it.
USD $60 seems a bit low for an x86 SBC.
https://projectsandcastle.org/status it worked on sandcastle, maybe it hasnt been ported to mainline yet?
if usb works then usb networking may be a better option
You have an iPhone 9? It doesn’t exist, you probably have something else.
iPhone 7 got Linux ported, so yes you can. Try looking for postmarketOS (though there aren’t that many working features, it’s good enough for running servers)
10 years ago is like the skylake era. sure, those machines are still pretty quick. can’t really be directly compared to phones…
I’ve never had the chance to actually try it on a phone(so only on vm) but Maemo Leste seemed really nice, pretty smooth even on a N900. It seems to be extremely unpopular though, can’t even find a recent video :/
I’m not sure about GTK4 but for GTK2 you use ~/.gtkrc-2.0 and for GTK3 ~/.config/gtk-3.0/settings.ini
emacs is great, from your list it can do at least email/file management/file editing/git/piracy/python/web browser
I ran Trisquel 9 on my Dell T3600 desktop for a few years. I never noticed anything malfunctioning, but systemd was annoying so I switched to slackware15. My nvidia kepler gpu worked perfectly, and even my logitech webcam worked.
use your distros method of listing every installed package and modify it to be a install command
Looks fantastic, I’ll actually be trying this. Love how it doesn’t lock my files into some obscure format like seafiles.
Install termux and use navidrome on it? Or copyparty?
