  • yeah i was just thinking this the other day. i have alot of packages on my linux boot. i run mysql, postgres all kinds of stuff, many python versions, still fast as the first day i installed it. windows on the other hand starts bogging down fast. i keep my windows boot withonly the bare minimum of things and turn off almost everything from the start up, woth the hopes of keeping it useable.

  • thats strange, my boot menu has 2 kernel selections for pop os, the current one and one that is the previous running kernel. if a pop os update breaks my system i can just boot from the other kernel image. which has only happened once in 5 years. but was able to wait for pop to push fixes etc and then dist upgrade.

since you dont seem to have that option, you may need to boot from live usb and investigate further.

when you try to boot into it what happens?

  • embedded linux! im too dumb to understand most of this but, im glad there are people out there with the brains and willpower to create projects like this. its not only like novelty value, but can really show potential future use cases for how we can make use of obsolete hardware etc. creative thinking is crucial in times like these, where mainstream is stripping away the value of art and creation. cool project!

  • There are many linux distros like Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Arch, Fedora etc, etc. and they usually come with a Default Desktop Environment Cinnamon, KDE, GNOME, XFCE, etc. etc. This is generally how the UI looks and functions. Menus, Window styles, buttons, and general overall visual theming. There are many ways to make the linux desktop environment better looking and functioning than macOS. Mac doesnt even have the ability to auto snap and resize the window to the edge of the screen until recently. And even then it decent at best. So beyond being able to fully customize the look of the desktop environment by using different ones with themes options, you can choose a DE that has better customization for user interaction that suites YOUR needs. Ofc Apple has a whole ecosystem of products that and a cloud that syncs your stuff across, but that comes at the cost of near zero customization ability…But whatever floats your boat. check out unixporn community, there are some really nice setups over there to give an idea of what is possible.
