GNOME is not user-centric. GNOME is GNOME-centric.
My guess would be: have an additional overlay filesystem on top of your immutable root and apply all your fixes to it.

Arm is an awful platform. Linux support across vendors is horrible, all GPU drivers are closed, bootloaders are locked, acpi is barely supported. Please no.
