This is one of the funniest posts I’ve seen here so far. Thanks for that! I unfortunately don’t otherwise have anything to add that hasn’t already been said, just wanted you to know that I enjoyed it a lot :)

Of course they’re fucking leechers, only 0.3 ratio? Pathetic
I mean, if it’s old and no one cares, I really don’t think it’s a big deal. Yeah, there’s risk, but they likely get DMCAs already all the freakin time from more recent stuff. There’s no risk for them because they’re not the perpetrators, their users are.
I’d say just put it on archive.org. Just use a VPN and no email that can be traced to you.
Worst thing really that will happen is that it’ll get removed?
yt-dlp was created in October 2020, Soulseek in April 2001, torrents in Juli 2001. Your “ol’ reliable” was created 5 years ago, 19 years younger than its competition. Youtube itself was founded in 2005.
I’m not sure you know what “ol’ reliable” means ;)
Federation doesn’t allow you to ignore DMCAs, not hosting in the US does. Federation has absolutely no impact on DMCA’s functioning.
Isn’t git technically already P2P? Everyone has the complete repo, and everyone can pull from everyone else, as long as a connection can be established. The networking/organization of this is just not automatic.
https://github.com/Ryubing/Ryujinx is still there as well as https://git.citron-emu.org/Citron/Citron (formerly Yuzu), the 2 main repositories for these 2 emulators.
So yeah, “easily killed” 4238 unimportant repos, not even getting the main ones, lol.
SEO. It really is not a big problem to spin up another repo with the same name. Takes time for Nintendo to create a new DMCA and people can find the emu quickly still. Figuring out which new name was chosen every 6-12 months would be harder than just making a new repo every 3 months.
I’ve got backups. Haven’t updated or looked at my server in months. If I’m ever compromised by missing security updates, I just load a backup and regenerate all keys.
I don’t put any critical data on public facing servers.
I just use the qbittorrent “search” feature. Add some of the search plugins for different sites that you can find when you open the search options.
*Arrs are nicer, but a lot to setup imo. qbittorrent you just download, open it when you need it, and then you’re done with it. If you don’t torrent a lot, it’s more time-efficient.
Until you run into some kind of problem :D
I literally have a rpi4 and just put libreELEC on it
Of course, I didn’t make some kind of point about the general use of GUIs and CLIs, I just said that GUIs are much faster if you can’t remember commands, which is the problem in this thread.
True of course. If you look at my comment though, I haven’t said that speed is the point of the command line. Just that Linux users are obsessed with it. For most users most of the time, the repetition/automation is not the point and ability to write scripts is not the most important thing. And you can combine tools with GUIs as well, it’s just slower. Same with reliability, GUIs don’t have to be and usually aren’t unreliable, so command line only has the automation and speed going for it.
you only need to remember few letters of the command
I believe that is exactly the problem in this thread. The command history only works if you remember in the first place.
Use GUIs for all the things.
Linux users are obsessed with the command line because it’s faster if you can type fast and remember everything. If you can’t, GUIs are actually much much faster because you are visually guided towards what you’re looking for and have to spend little time looking for the correct commands and syntax and everything.
Don’t forget to update us please in case you figure something out :)
The reason this is as public as it is is because an archive like this is more useful the more is archived. If you manage it in an entirely hidden way, you basically won’t get it accessible from the clearnet and are relegated to keep it on Tor or similar. And once you do that, a lot less people will use it and thus it’ll be a lot less useful.
Also, they are not only fighting for an archive to exist, they’re fighting for it being a societally acceptable thing to exist.
