LibreOffice is good alternative if you are not heavily dependant on unique MS Office features, especially Excel.
OnlyOffice is better if you’re looking for MS Office document compability.

lol even funnier that this western-centric Lemmy removed my comment about ricing, while actual Linux community CJK countries or English Asia does not recognize it as a slur and use ricing neutrally. Basically reclaims it.
White knight syndrome so much.
Here I am, an Asian, reclaim it to be neutral meaning. I will still use ricing.
Go check any English Asia Linux Group, especially on YouTube and Facebook Group, people are using ricing neutrally.
Language change with time, and making it neutral is totally fine and okay.
What you’re doing here is just yet another instance of Westerner forcing “correct English,” not realizing English is a global language and can develop independently outside US, Canada, or Europe.

Design =/= painting.
Krita is excel at painting and illustrating, and fully alternative to CSP, Medibang, and other painting software.
If you want to use it as general design software, as in layout design, photo manipulation, poster creation, etc, Krita doesn’t even have a lot of comparable features compared to its alternative simply because it was not designed as design software.
Krita is only usable for basic design stuff. (EDIT: DESIGN =/= PAINTING)
It’s mainly alternative to CSP, Medibang, and other painting software.
Definitely not Adobe Photoshop or Affinity Photo alternative.
Unfortunately, none of them are as easy to use and full featured as Affinity softwares.
As much as I love FOSS, Affinity dev did a great job to enhance UX for first-timer, easier than Adobe or FOSS alternative.
Not to mention, so many new feature than any competitor doesn’t have yet.
The closest one in usability and innovation is Inkscape.
GIMP, Scribus, and Krita, are not even close. (Krita is not even direct alternative to them)
I regularly uses Affinity software, Krita, and GIMP.
Affinity software is way better designed and more feature-packed for graphic design. Affinity software avoids a lot of complexity of Adobe and make it easier for newcomer.
GIMP is not even close.
Krita on other hand is only suitable for basic image editing, not full-blown design software. It’s created for drawing-related stuff after all… You only can recommend Krita for people that looking for Clip Studio Paint, Medibang, or ibis Paint alternative.
Regarding the interface: Krita is heavily designed to match artist workflow around the world. Here’s the complexity:
Different region, ages, and level of professionality have entirely different of common/standard app.
A lot of comic artist or illustrator that delves in anime/manga/ACG style in Asia use Clip Studio Paint as their main software. People from Western gaming industry often used Photoshop or Procreate. Teenager in Asia often use ibisPaint. PaintToolSAI for lightweight and customizable interface. There’s Rebelle for replicating traditional realistic painting.
Krita tried to cater to all of these people, not just “Photoshop users” that mostly just for image editing.
Graphite.rs is node-based.
It’s entirely different workflow.
Those stuff doesn’t even seem remotely same tho, different type of design style.
All kawaii FOSS logos are common Akiba-kei moe logo style.
